Water Heater Leaking? What to Do Right Now
Most water heaters last 8 to 12 years. When one fails, it usually fails all at once.
Right now
- Shut off the cold water supply valve on top of the tank
- Turn off the power (electric) or set the gas valve to pilot or off
- Move boxes and anything on the floor
- Take photos of the tank and the water
Then
Call a plumber to replace the heater and call us for the water. Finished basements soak it up fast: carpet pad, drywall and the bottom plates of the walls. We'll get the water out, dry the structure and put back what has to come out. See burst and frozen pipes and water damage restoration.
